The skills shortage in the Accounting profession is a very real challenge for employers. To help address the need for talent, it is being proposed that graduates from non-Accounting backgrounds such as Engineering, Law and Science may be given the opportunity to sit an entrance exam that will enable them to enrol in the Chartered Accountants Program.

In this proposal, non-Accounting graduates would need to pass an entrance exam, to test the potential canditate's skills in the six core knowledge areas. Employers and candidates would then receive a report detailing gaps in the applicant's knowledge with suggested resources to enable the candidate to reach the standard required.

This proposal is still under review, but if you would like to find out more information, you can contact Chris Hurling at the Institute of Chartered Accountants (Christopher@icaa.org.au or 3233 6513).
