Dear Young Engineer

The Science & Engineering Challenge is fast approaching and YEA-Q is seeking some more volunteers to assist in conducting the activities.

The events are held at Cornubia Park Sports Centre, 146 Bryants Road, Shailer Park  Centre of Griffith University on the following dates

  • Brisbane South Challenge: 20, 21 & 22 July
  • QLD State Challenge: 24, 25 & 26 August

Assistants are needed between 8.00am and 3.00pm on any day of the three day period to oversee the students and keep them focused. This is a great motivational and intergenerational opportunity. All volunteers will be provided with morning tea and lunch on their nominated days.

Science & Engineering Challenge has been developed by the University of Newcastle to present science and engineering in an inspirational manner, to excite the imagination of prospective students and provoke their interests in the fields of science and engineering through a variety of well designed tasks.

These Challenges are conducted with Year 9 & 10 students to increase the pool of students taking science and maths related subjects onto Year 12.  The challenge program is quite robust and been running since 2000 throughout Australia as a joint project conducted by the Engineers Australia, Rotary and the University of Newcastle. It is run in each state by Engineers Australia division. Then the winner of each region will go for state and ultimately national championship. A team from the University of Newcastle will facilitate the competition.
