According to a recent article in the Courier Mail (Bretherton, Aug 2003), many people are guilty of under-preparing for an inteview with a recruitment agency representative.

TMP/Hudson Global Resources recommend that candidates put as much effort into an agency interview as they would when confronted by a 3 member panel from one of the city's top firms (Courier Mail, Aug 2003). This makes sense given that recruitment agencies have multiple job opportuities across many organisations, and recommend the best quality applicants to an employer for an interview.

TMP/Hudson Global Resources offer the following interview tips:
  • if you are really interested in a job, let the interviewer know (show your personality and passion)
  • think about your experience and why you would be especially suitable for the role
  • have a clear idea of what you want
  • research organisations (ie visit their website, gain an understanding of the services offered, culture and values)
  • maintain eye contact, be on time and be well presented.

In addition, they recommend that you ask your recuritment agency for tips about interview technique, preparing your resume, realistic salary expectations, and how to attain your long-term career ambitions. A good recruitment agency should be able to assist you with these and other queries.
